Job Title: Surgical Technologist Job Specialty: Operating Room / Scrub, Scrub Technologist Job Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Days Guaranteed Hours: 36 Experience: Minimum of 3 years License: Not specified Certifications: CPR certification, CST required Must-Have: Graduate of an accredited surgical technician program Job Description: - Work under the supervision of surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nurses to provide assistance in the operating room. - Care for patients during surgical procedures in hospital and ambulatory settings. - Participate in planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care alongside the healthcare team. - Responsible for ensuring optimum levels of care as patients transition through their stay. - Enhance positive relations with all customers, including patients, families, and medical staff. - Share knowledge with colleagues, promote new roles, and assist with staffing needs. - Maintain a safe environment and facilitate the achievement of organizational goals. - Perform duties and responsibilities in accordance with established policies, procedures, and guidelines. Essential Job Functions: - Prepare the operating/procedure room and surgical equipment. - Collaborate in planning to identify and meet patient-family centered needs. - Communicate with patients and practitioners during pre-operative planning. - Provide age-appropriate care in a non-judgmental, nondiscriminatory manner. - Assist in passing tools to surgeons and control equipment like lights and suction. - Safely transfer and position patients to prevent injury or harm. - Participate in physician-led time-outs and initiate emergency procedures as needed. - Protect patient privacy and adhere to guidelines in the management of patient information. Additional Responsibilities: - Attend unit, division, or committee meetings as designated. - Ensure equipment and supplies are available and report malfunctions. - Use resources effectively to enhance patient care outcomes. - Participate in quality improvement activities. - Complete yearly competencies and revise self-development goals as needed. Physical Capacity Demand: - This position requires heavy work, including exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently. Job Considerations: - Requires strong analytical abilities, memory, problem-solving, and creativity. - Involves communication and collaboration with coworkers, physicians, and patients. - Must prioritize and manage time effectively.
